Former Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini edges closer to West Ham job after leaving Hebei China Fortune

Manuel Pellegrini has left Chinese Super League outfit Hebei China Fortune, the club confirmed on Saturday, paving the way for the former Manchester City boss to take over at West Ham.

Hebei made the announcement on social media after Pellegrini guided the team to a 2-1 win over Chongqing Lifan in the club's final league match before a two-month break for the World Cup.

The statement read: "After amicable discussions with Mr Pellegrini, we have reached a mutual agreement.

"As of May 20, Mr Pellegrini will no longer work as the head coach of Hebei China Fortune Football Club.

"We sincerely thank Mr Pellegrini for his contribution to the club and we wish him all the best for the future."

I really can’t be arsed trawling through old posts but you and many others were saying what a great manager we had in Pellegrini after December, I questioned this.
We don’t, he’s bang average at best , in China for a very good reason.
If Pellegrini was given another £100m to spend, how is that going to change the performances against Wimbledon, Burnley and the far too many to menrtion shit clubs, it isn’t, we had better players in every single position and still got bashed up, he can’t motivate!
If a team comes out to play then yes we have a chance because of the quality we have up top, if they come to outwork us we’re well and truly up shit creek!
Bad management and lack of motivational skills.

I'm amazed that you're not questioning his methods?
I voiced my concerns months ago and they still stand, in fact they've grown stronger due to recent performances.
As said earlier, maybe this is the price we have to pay for a bit of entertaining football, if so, so be it but he ain't this great manager or tactician that a few of you make him out to be, in fact he's quite the opposite a stubborn old cunt who knows best despite evidence to the contrary.

4-4-2, in the modern game only works if you have a workaholic 2nd forward who drops into midfield when we don’t have the ball, 4-4-2 in possession 4-5-1 without, we don’t have them players .
I’m amazed at the support Pellegrini gets on here but I think that’s more of an indictment on the previous 3 or 4 incumbents.
He’s a fantasy manager that does not understand the nitty gritty of the premier league, it’s been proven over and over again!
Gone him untold riches he’d win us the league but so would Harvey Price.

I like 4-4-2, I would be very happy if we played 4-4-2 every week and made it the West Ham way like Barca have made 4-3-3 the Barca way. In my youth West Ham and just about everyone in England played 4-4-2. I am very glad to have a manager that plays 4-4-2. I think he will make it work as well. Pellegrini is a great manager.

Firstly, lets try to conduct a discussion with respect. Differing opinions do not make us cunts, but our conduct to each other may well do.

I still believe Pellegrini is the best manager we have had for some time, and I say that with the backdrop of yesterday's performance. The rest of this post is merely my opinion, as like most of us I am not 'in the know'.

The word from the board is that we must sell to spend in the summer, with a small kitty over and above that. If Pellegrini wants to land a top drawer striker, he is going to need to see a big fee coming in for Arnie, and this can only be realised if he goes some way to rediscovering his peak form of some months ago. If we dump him in the reserves, expect that price to fall to the point where we will be replacing him with another Perez.

In terms of the performances, its a real head scratcher for me. The only theory I can see applying here is as follows. We always seem to sign players from a certain bracket - up and coming but unproven, past their prime journeymen, peak players with a single flaw (injury prone, troublemaker, just pushed a referee over etc). Lets give a collective term to this bracket - Rough Diamonds. Now a Rough Diamond will have aspirations to perform at the highest level, a level higher than West Ham affords. They want top 6 football. We have a squad full of Rough Diamonds. How does this manifest itself on the pitch?

When a Rough Diamond plays in a high profile fixture against top drawer opponents, they see this as a shop window opportunity, and raise their game accordingly. If they can blood the noses of Man Utd with the world watching, they can except their stock to rise, hence every sinew will be straining to produce a peak performance. Likewise, when they have to travel to Wimbledon on a freezing cold night to play a team of mediocrity with an audience of no-one, they will turn in a correspondingly disinterested performance.

I'm sure that there is plenty of evidence to the contrary - times we have put in a shift in low profile games or failed to turn up against the big boys. All I'll say is that once this idea formulated in my head, is it difficult to see past personal interest as the key motivating factor behind our players individual performances recently.

The squad wasn’t lazy under Moyes, Bilic granted and the last months of BFS when they knew he was gone, however if you’re using them 2 as a barometer then you’re really scraping the barrel in defending Worzel.

You asked called what? When you were blowing smoke up his arse after December I advised caution and was called a cunt by you and many others, I could see the cracks and the lazy work ethic was covered over by the odd 15 minute spell of brilliance, team and individual alike.
That is not sustainable, he ignores the nitty gritty tough shit that you have to do to be consistent because he’s never had to do it.
That is not going to change nor is his insistence on going back to 4-4-2 as his default setting.

Your right Miike, since early Jan the season has gone off the rails and we have had a lot of indifferent performances. What went wrong early Jan? Arnautovic was not able to play as his mind was not right and the the team spirit looked lost as we lost first to Wimbledon and then in the league to slip down the Prem.

I expect us to raise our game for the big challengeing fixtures, Chelsea, ManU which should be entertaining, but the season is over and we should look forward to Pellegrini getting us organised for next season.

I read the same stuff on the bilic out threads, like changing the manager is all that's needed. you also never question the owners, years of shit recruiting always leaving us short in key areas like central midfield, central defence, fullback and goalscorers. having plenty of bodies doesn't equal a great squad, but it doesn't really matter how much they spend because they don't have a clue. i said on those bilic threads that ferguson would struggle to succeed under these owners. this 'best squad ever' you keep going on about was lazy under allardyce, bilic, moyes and pellegrini
